A Companion to enshittify.ai

Every Technique Has a Counter

The manual documents the degradation. This is the arsenal: working tools that put specific techniques back on the record. If a counter exists, it lives here. If it does not, it gets built.

The Arsenal

Two Counters, Shipped

Each tool does one job: make a specific enshittification visible again. Each runs on your machine, against the surface you are already looking at, and shows its work.

vs. The AI Playbook

HAL AI Detector

Know when what you are looking at was made by a machine.

A cross-browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. It reads the explicit AI labels the platforms ship — YouTube’s “How this was made,” X’s “Made with AI,” Instagram and Facebook’s AI-content pills, TikTok’s synthetic-media notices — and flags the sites whose output is AI by definition. Where the label is absent, as on X where disclosure is voluntary, it runs a fully local neural analysis on post images: a frozen ONNX backbone scores AI-versus-camera, and the verdict never leaves your device. Flagged images take a red AI watermark. The eye in the toolbar turns red.

vs. The Product Playbook

Phys Fake

Know when the disc you are buying is not the disc you think it is.

A Chrome and Firefox extension for marketplace listings — eBay, Amazon, and anywhere else a physical release gets sold. It parses the listing you already have open: title, format, edition, disc count, price, seller. Then it runs the stack the bootleggers hate: a rules engine against a reference database of real releases. A title that was never released on the claimed format. A disc count that matches no edition. A per-disc price no repress would accept. A seller with no history. No single check is proof; the verdict is a stack of warning signs — Likely Genuine, Needs Checking, or Likely Fake — with each sign named and explained, plus a physical verification checklist for the disc in your hands.

How the Mapping Works

The Method

Every technique in the manual has a counter. Some are policy. Some are habits: read the terms, calculate the unit price, keep the receipt. This site holds only one kind: software. A technique earns a card here when a tool actually does the work — parses, detects, verifies, and shows its reasoning — not when a promise to do it is shipped.

Each counter is held to the manual’s own three axes, inverted. Profit, reversed, is cost: a counter should be free, or nearly. Stealth, reversed, is legibility: the counter names every warning sign and explains every verdict. Betrayal, reversed, is trust: the counter runs on your machine, reads only the page you already loaded, and sends nothing home. A tool that fails any of the three does not get a card. It gets a fix.

The counter is not the product. The counter is the receipt.

The arsenal grows one working tool at a time.
